Tap the + button on the Dashboard (or the Log quick action). Enter any parameters you've tested — you don't need to fill in all of them — and tap Save. Your charts and trends update immediately.
When you add an inhabitant, take or choose a photo and TankLog suggests the top matches using Apple's on-device image recognition. Photos are analyzed entirely on your iPhone and are never uploaded. Recognition suggests general types (like "Clownfish") — you can edit the species name to be as precise as you like before saving.
The free plan includes 5 AI recognitions per calendar month, resetting on the 1st. TankLog Pro removes the limit entirely.
The calculator uses widely accepted reef-safe daily limits (for example, no more than 1 dKH of alkalinity change per day) and splits larger corrections across multiple days. It's general guidance, not a substitute for your own judgment — always confirm doses against your product's label, and when in doubt, dose slower.
Make sure notifications are allowed: open iOS Settings → Apps → TankLog → Notifications and enable Allow Notifications. Then check the reminder is enabled in TankLog → Settings → All Reminders (the toggle on the right of each reminder).
Go to Tools → Export Parameters (or the export button on the Parameters tab). CSV export is free and works with Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets. PDF reports are part of TankLog Pro.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Open iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → TankLog Pro to change plans or cancel. Canceling keeps Pro active until the end of the paid period. To restore Pro on a new device, use Restore Purchases on the upgrade screen in the app.
All your data lives on your device — TankLog has no accounts and no servers (see our Privacy Policy). It's included in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or computer backup), so restoring your phone restores your tank data. Deleting the app deletes its data.
TankLog v1 is designed for saltwater reef tanks (mixed reef, SPS, LPS, softie, and FOWLR). Freshwater and planted tank support is on our roadmap.
